I'm back from my self-imposed break last week... I wish I could say we went on vacation or that I figured out how to create sustainable energy from scrappy glue and patterned paper but neither of those are true. I did something way more important than either of those - I took care of my little boy who had croup - oh, and I started shipping off pillow covers from the 400+ orders I received on the groopdealz feature.
So, I've been working on my Dresser/Vanity turned Bench for the past... um... well, too long. But, I am happy to say that it's finally finished! Yay! And, it's actually in the house where it's going to live!
Here it is when we got it. Remember, it was left in the garage of my Brother-in-laws new house for who knows how long. I did think about rehabbing it and keeping it as a vanity, but we really didn't need one and I didn't have anywhere to put it. So, I had the idea of turning it into a bench, which I've been wanting for the entry way, for sometime now. I then saw one on Pinterest and showed my husband so he'd stop thinking I was crazy.
Here's a reminder of the transformation...
Original beauty
Without Legs... and with a little boy
Naked. Out in the yard. What a exabitionist
Primed, sanded, vacuumed, dusted. Ready to be painted...
She's so pretty! We painted her in smoke screen, which is a grey/blue color. We used drawer pulls that we already had on hand, someday I'll switch them out with something a little more exciting, but for now, they work. I still need to actually sew the pad cover, but I'm having a hard time committing to a fabric. I've tried brown/natural chevron, this slub yellow chevron, but I'm thinking of going towards a navy blue fabric. We'll see, but I'll share the cover once it's done.
In the top drawer are our keys, sunglasses, miscellaneous items that we always unload from our pockets when we come in. I had the idea yesterday after the bench came inside of cutting out holes in the back of the drawer so phone charger cords could go through and our phones can live and charge inside, hiding the mess...
And, my favorite part, we can keep our shoes in the drawers! Yay! No more shoes strewn all over the entry way for us to trip over, kick out of the way and make our already messy house look more messy! I've had to stop a little boy from filling the drawers with toys numerous times so far, I'm sure I'll constantly be surprised to open a drawer and see what's in it - hopefully it's never something that's alive!
So, that's it! So happy that it's done! I'm looking for a shelf with hangers to go above it so we have a place to hang our sweaters, bags, etc.
Thanks for coming back this week! I have lots and lots to share, so keep checking back!
Andrea
What a great idea! Wish I had room in my laundry room.....
